🏛️ Was Troy a Real City?
Yes! The city of Troy really existed. It was located in what is now modern-day Turkey, near the sea. More than 3,000 years ago, it was a powerful city protected by massive stone walls.
⚔️ A War That Lasted 10 Years
According to the famous Greek poet Homer, the Greeks and Trojans fought for ten long years. Legendary warriors like Achilles, Hector, and Odysseus (also called Ulisses) battled fiercely.
But no matter how hard the Greeks tried, they couldn’t win.
🧠 Odysseus and the Smartest Plan in History
Then came Odysseus, known as the smartest of the Greek heroes.
He had a wild idea:
Build a giant wooden horse… and hide soldiers inside it!
They left the horse at the gates of Troy and sailed away, pretending to give up.
🎉 The Trojans Thought They Won
The Trojans saw the Greek army disappear and found the wooden horse.
—“We’ve won the war!” they shouted. “This is a gift from the gods!”
But one Trojan priest warned:
“It’s a trick. Don’t bring it into the city.”
Suddenly, two giant sea serpents rose from the ocean and attacked the priest and his family. The people thought the gods were punishing him… so they decided to bring the horse into the city.
🌙 A City That Fell While Sleeping
That night, while the Trojans were celebrating and sleeping,
the Greek soldiers came out of the horse, opened the gates, and let their army in.
Troy was caught by surprise.
By sunrise, the city of Troy was burning.
The Greeks had won.
📚 Did It Really Happen?
Historians believe a real war happened at Troy, but no one knows for sure if the horse story is 100% true. What we do know is that Homer’s epic poems inspired generations—and still do today!
